Kathmandu, June 27

Biratnagar Municipality won the title of the Deputy Mayor Cup Inter-municipality Women’s National Football Tournament here at the Nepal APF Club grounds today.

Biratnagar came from behind to beat Bahrabise Municipality 4-1 in tie-breaker after both the teams played a 1-1 draw in the regulation period. Bahrabise took the lead in the 27th minute through Samjhana Lawati’s goal, while Jamuna Magar scored the equaliser for Biratnagar in the 47th minute. After both the teams failed to score in extra time, the match was decided on penalties.

In tie-breaker, Rekha Paudel, Ema Rai, Bidhya Rana and Manmaya Limbu converted from the spot for Biratnagar, while Rubina Pahari was the lone player from Bahrabise to score from the spot. Sushma Tamang and Anu Lama wasted their shots.

Rekha Paudel of Biratnagar was declared the best player of the tournament and she earned Rs 25,000. Biratnagar’s Kalpana Karki was named the best goalkeeper, while Paras Chaudhary was the best coach. Bahrabise trio Rajani Shrestha, Parbati Ghale and Sarita Sherpa were adjudged the best midfielder, forward and defender respectively. The best individuals earned Rs 10,000 each.

With the victory, Biratnagar received Rs 500,000 along with the trophy, while Bahrabise got Rs 300,000. A total of 18 teams took part in the tournament organised by All Nepal Football Association.
