Defending champions MMC off to winning start

KATHMANDU: Defending champions Signature Manang Marsyangdi Club (MMC) opened their campaign with a comprehensive 3-1 win against Brigade Boys Club in Pulsar Martyr’s Memorial A Division league at ANFA Complex ground in Satdobato, today.

First-tier newcomers Brigade Boys Club took a surprise lead as Rajat Tiwari struck a long-range missile in the back of MMC’s net in 28th minute. However, they couldn’t hold on to their lead for long as Heman Gurung equalised in the 47th minute.

MMC’s foreign recruit Afeez Olawale’s brace sealed the game for reigning champions. Later, Olawale won the man-of-the-match award for his scintillating display.

Himalayan Sherpa Club and departmental team Armed Police Force played a dour goalless draw today. Both the teams shared a point each.

HSC’s defender Ashish Gurung was adjudged as man of the match for his stellar performance in defence.

Meanwhile, the league will be postponed for a month for upcoming Dashain, Tihar and Chhat festival, according to ANFA.

After today’s match, the reigning champions MMC climb to top spot with three points in the 14-team points table with a better goal difference to Sankata, Three Stars and Nepal Police Club.
