Kathmandu, July 24

After a gap of almost one-and-a-half months, the Department of Transport Management (DoTM) is planning to start accepting applications for driving licence across the country from Sunday.

Tulsi Ram Aryal, spokesperson for DoTM, informed that it will restart receiving applications for driving licence starting from Sunday. “Earlier, we had planned to reopen the licence issuance process from July 17, but there were a few technical problems still that needed to be resolved before we could start accepting applications,” Aryal stated.

Informing that technical division of DoTM is working to fix the problems, he added, “The problems will most probably be sorted out this week.”

Aryal also informed that DoTM will give priority to the service-seekers who had submitted their applications for written exams and vehicle trial between mid-June and mid-July.

Earlier, DoTM had halted the driving licence issuance process (receiving applications, holding written examinations and driving trials) completely from mid-June to mid-July. It had said that DoTM offices had to prioritise works regarding retrial and revenue calculation and management of fiscal year 2017-18 during that period.

“We have finished the retrial process and revenue calculation and management of last fiscal. Our new smart licence printing machine will also start operating in a full-fledged manner so we will not have any problems in providing the smart licences on time,” said Aryal.

DoTM had scrapped all online applications for driving licence received from mid-June to mid-July. Thousands of service-seekers had been affected.
