Kathmandu, June 2

Tashi Ghale won the title of the South Asian Fellowship of Golfing Rotarians Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford ¾ handicap format, the two-handicap amateur golfer Ghale accumulated 42 nett points. The Nepal Golf Association President Ghale carded birdies on the second, seventh, ninth and 12th holes in the bogey-free round. Wanghen Dhondup was nett runner-up with 39 points.

Ghale was also eligible to win the gross section trophy with 40 points on count back after he was tied with Tashi Tshiring but he chose nett section award due to one-player-one-trophy rule.

Tshiring, who carded a total of eight birdies on the second, third, fourth, seventh, ninth, 12th, 14th and 16th holes, received the gross category award. He was undone by bogeys on the fifth and 17th holes and a double bogey on the 11th hole.

Purna Shakya won the Rotarian section trophy with 37 points, while Maj Bejoy Moktan came second with 34. Likewise, RK Bhargav was the best among the visiting Rotarians with 34 points, while Madan Rana won the senior section trophy with 36 points. Devasri Rana bagged the women’s section trophy with 29 points, while Dr Rita Thapa was second with 24 points. Mayank Dahal lifted the junior category award with 41 points. Likewise, Madhav Simkhada won the closest-to-the-pin award and Surendra Phuyal bagged the longest drive trophy.

In all, 76 golfers took part in the event organised by Nepal chapter of South Asian Fellowship of Golfing Rotarians.

Rotary International Foundation Trustee Sushil Gupta, Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire, Captain Joseph Nathan, District Governor Elect, Dist 3292 Nepal & Bhutan, Chintamani Bhattarai, President RC Kastamandap Sajjan Bar Singh Thapa, and Santoo Shrestha of Jawalakhel Distillery handed over the prizes to the winners of the tournament.
