DHANGADHI: Mechi Netralaya Kakarvitta Training Centre defeated hosts Farwest-XI in sudden death in the opening match of the Nepal Ice Farwest Khaptad Gold Cup here at the Dhangadhi Stadium on Tuesday.

The match was decided on penalties after both the teams failed to score in regulation period. Kakarvitta registered the victory in the ninth attempt after the teams were tied at 4-4 in penalty shootout. Bhushan Limbu, Ajit Gurung, Bishwas Shrestha, Deep Karki, Nishan imbu, Bikash Rai and Bishal Rai scored from the spot for Kakarvitta, while skipper Khamir Gilsan and Laxman GC failed to score.

Likewise, Abdul Rahman, NarendraChaudhary, Vijay Thakuri, Binod KC, Philim Tamang and Chetan Kumar Tharu scored for Farwest, whereas Lawal Olakan, Madhav Bhandari and Rakesh Hamal could not convert their kicks. Kakarvitta goalkeeper Dip Karki was named the man of the match and he earned Rs 10,000.

Kakarvitta will now face Nepal APF Club on Saturday. Nepal Police Club will take on Morang-XI in Wednesday’s match.
