Lama & Co win Western Open Pro-Am title

The team of pro Sanjay Lama and amateurs Sanjeev Tiwari, Lt Col Jhalendra Bhattarai and Balram Thapa won the Pro-Am title of the Surya Nepal Western Open here at the Himalayan Golf Course today.

Lama, who won the main event title on Friday for his fourth career trophy, was the best scoring pro with 36 points and he was teamed up with top three amateurs to declare the winning team with 138 points. Tiwari earned 36 points, while Bhattarai and Thapa scored 33 each.

Top pro Shivaram Shrestha, who scored 35 points, and amateurs Rajesh Rai (33), Basanta Gauchan (32) and Sunder Rai (32) finished second with the total score of 132. Likewise, pro Bhuwan Nagarkoti (32) and amateurs Hari Thapa (32), Mahendra Phagani (32) and Raju Thakali (31) came third with 129 points.

Rabina Shrestha was the best scoring golfer among women participants with 34 points, while Pemba Sherpa and Rishab Raj Acharya bagged the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin awards respectively.

A total of 88 players including 22 pros took part in the event which was played under stableford full handicap format. The tournament was played over 16 holes due to technical reason. Top pro was teamed up with the best three amateurs in the winning team, while the second best pro and next three amateurs were in the runner-up team. Likewise, third pro was teamed up with seventh to ninth placed amateurs for the second runner-up team.

Minister for Financial Affairs and Planning of Gandaki Province Kiran Gurung, President of Nepal Golf Association Tashi Ghale, Assistant Brand Manager of Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd Bikram Thapa, President of Kaski District Golf Association Maj Lacchim Prasad Gurung and Director of Himalayan Golf Course Kiran KC handed over the prizes to the winners.
