Nepal registers second straight victory in World Twenty20 qualifiers

KATHMANDU: Nepal defeated hosts Malaysia by eight wickets in the second match of ICC World Twenty20 Asia qualifiers held today at Bayuemas Oval Stadium in Malaysia to record a second straight victory.

Nepal chased the target of 101 runs posted by Malaysia in 12.4 overs at a loss of two wickets.

Nepali Skipper Paras Khadka contributed 52 runs while vice-caption Gyanendra Malla scored 27 and opener Binod Bhandari made 12 runs.

Spinner Sandeep Lamichanne took five wickets in four overs while Sompal Kami succeeded in dismissing three batsmen and captain Khadka took one wicket for Nepal.

Top three teams (from east sub-region) will enter second round of qualifier to play with the UAE, Qatar, and Kuwait, the teams selected from the western sub-region. From the competition among the six teams, two teams will be selected for the final round of qualification match.

Nepal will meet Thailand on Sunday.
