Nepal Top Headlines (May 04-10, 2019)
1) 20,362 Deaths in 10 Years!
Yes! What you read is the bitter fact in Nepal! Do you know? The country has reportedly seen these many number of deaths in the last 10 years, caused by accidents, while many thousands sustained injuries. Surprisingly, the number of deaths in road accidents surpassed the number of deaths during Maoist insurgency period, which reported only 17,000 deaths.
2) 20 Nepali Girls Trafficked per Day
It is really saddening that around 20 Nepali girls are trafficked to third world countries through India. The Indian Embassy has reportedly rescued a total number of 300 people being trafficked to third world countries through India and Bangladesh, in the last six months period, with the support of the Indian Women Commission and Non-Government Organizations.
3) South Asian Games
Nepal has finalized the list of athletes to be trained for the upcoming South Asia Games scheduled to be held during December 1-10, 2019. For this, the National Sports Council (NSC) has finalized the list of 625 athletes to be participating in the tournament. The candidates were selected on the basis of their performance at the 8th National Games. The training session is expected to start in the third week of May 2019.
4) Tourism Infra on Priority
Nepal Government is keen about tourism infrastructure, says the Deputy Prime Minister Ishwor Pokharel. Inaugurating the 46th Annual General Assembly of the Hotel Association of Nepal, Pokharel informed about the government’s relentless efforts to promote the ‘Visit Nepal Year 2020’ campaign. He further informed that planning for the same would also be in line with the FY 2019-20 Budget.
5) Keen Eye on Encroachments
The government has taken the land encroachment issue on a serious note. Informing about the growing encroachment activity across the nation, the Minister for Communications and Information Technology Gokul Baskota said the government will take over all such lands subjected to encroachment. “The protection of government lands is not only related to land, but to the public property and economy,” he said.
