Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli launched a national campaign to insure senior citizens of the country and open bank accounts of all Nepalis today.
The campaign was inaugurated with the opening of bank accounts of PM Oli’s father Mohan Prasad and mother-inlaw Ghan Maya Shakya.
Under this scheme, which intends to help senior citizens to get access to their pensions easily, banks will open accounts for senior citizens by depositing Rs 100. On the occasion, PM Oli also assured that the government will raise pensions for elderly people.
Commenting on the government’s campaign, Anil Keshary Shah, chief executive officer of Nabil Bank, said, “The campaign launched by the prime minister with the objective of ensuring that every Nepali has a bank account is one of the most ambitious initiatives ever launched.
Nabil Bank wholeheartedly welcomes the initiative and will open these simplified accounts through all its branches, and we will credit Rs 100 into every account opened under this scheme right through 2076 BS.”
“We firmly believe opening of a bank account is the first step in integrating every Nepali into the economic ecosystem of the nation. This is the first step to ensure that each one of us is connected to the prosperity towards which we are all striving.”
