Police, GGIC complete NBL playoffs line-up

Kathmandu, June 5

Nepal Police Club and Golden Gate International Club completed the playoffs lineup of the Kwiks Nepal Basketball League here today.

NPC faced a 75-59 loss at the hands of already-eliminated Royal Basketball Club in their last match of the league round but earned a point to make it to the playoffs along with GGIC, who were not in action today.

Tribhuvan Army Club and Times International Club had already advanced to the playoffs.

NPC, who won seven matches in the league round played under home-andaway format, accumulated 21 points from 14 games, while GGIC — who will face ANK Kirtipur Basketball Team in the last match — have 20 points and they can finish third with their eighth win. GGIC will be tied on 21 points if they lose the match.

Tribhuvan Army Club topped the eight-team standing with 27 points, while Times International Club finished second with 26 points. Budhanilkantha Municipality Basketball Club, who earned 20 points, were eliminated along with Royal (19), Kirtipur (16) and BMC South Siders Basketball Club (15).

RBC opened up with a 17- 13 lead and never looked back against the NPC, who needed a point to seal playoffs berth, in their home match in Sanogaun, Lalitpur.

RBC took the second quarter 16-14 to extend the lead to six points.

NPC were not up to the mark in today’s match as they fell 23-19 and 19-13 behind in the last two periods respectively. Nikesh Rakhal Magar of RBC was named the player of the match for his 16 points, nine rebounds, four steals and two assists.

In women’s section, ISO Kite defeated Saipal Academy 72-60. Kite’s foreign recruit Allana May Lim, who top scored with 28 points along with 16 rebounds and two steals, won the playerof-the-match award.
