Sherpa, Acharya take lead

KATHMANDU, JANUARY 16

Pemba Sherpa and Sadbhav Acharya took lead after the first day of the Indian Ambassador’s Invitational Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stabelford 3/4 handicap format, the seven-handicap amateur golfer Sherpa earned 39 points to stay at the top in nett section. Sherpa scored 20 points on the front nine before adding 19 on the latter half. Surendra Phuyal and SSP Ashoke Singh are were tied on 38 points, while Pavitra Karki carded 37 points.

The 14-year-old Acharya scored 39 points to take lead in gross section. The two-handicapper carded five birdies in round and produced the best card with 41 points but the junior golfer is not eligible for the main prize.

The tournament was scheduled for two days due to the coronavirus pandemic.

A total of 39 players took part on the first day, while 36 others, including six women golfers, will complete their rounds on Sunday.

The tournament, organised by the Embassy of India, is sponsored by Nepal SBI Bank, ISME Pvt Ltd. Tata Motors, Pernod Ricard and Dabur Nepal.
