Kathmandu, April 13

Dawa J Sherpa won the title of the Indian Ambassador’s Invitational Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Played under stableford 3/4 handicap format, the 11-handicap golfer, Sherpa earned 40 points to win the trophy along with Callaway Epic Flash Driver. Tashi Dong was second with 39 points and he got Epic Flash3 Wood. Tashi Tshiring won the gross section trophy with 39 points and received Epic Flash3 Wood. He also claimed the most birdies award.

Maj Bejoy Moktan claimed the senior section title on the count back after being tied on 35 points with Bhairaja Panday and Prabhakar Adhikari. Moktan scored 20 on back nine, while Panday had 18 and Adhikari 16. Aditi Ghmire won the women’s category trophy with 30 points and she received Callaway Epic Flash Driver. Erden Champy was a distant second with 18 points.

Sadbhav Acharya lifted the junior section title on the count back after being tied on 38 points with Sam Doublard. while Doublard earned 20 on back nine. Dawa J Sherpa got the best front nine score with 23 points and Sadbhav Acharya did so on back nine with 22 points.

Ang Norbu Sherpa won the closest-to-the-pin award and Sam Doublard got the longest drive prize. They received Callaway Mcdaddy Wedge each. Lt Gen KNS Thapa received the senior most golfer award.

In all, 69 golfers took part in the annual tournament organised by Embassy of India in Kathmandu. Nepal SBI Bank was the main sponsor of the tournament, while Tata Motors and Pernod Ricard were cosponsors.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri and his spouse Namrita Puri, President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire, Captain Joseph Nathan and CEO of Nepal SBI Bank Anukool Bhatnagar handed over the prizes to the winners.
