Jayaram Shrestha plays a shot on the second day of the Pilot Golfers NPGA Classic at the Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu on Thursday.

Kathmandu, March 21

Jayaram Shrestha carded two-under 70 to extend the lead after the second round of the Pilot Golfers NPGA Classic here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.

Shrestha posted the 36- hole total of six-under 138 to stay three strokes ahead of Bhuwan Kumar Rokka in the seventh event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2018-19. Rokka carded one-under 71 for the total score of three-under 141.

Amateur golfer Tanka Bahadur Karki played one-under 71 to remain at third position with the total score of two-under 142.

Leader Shrestha carded five-under 31 before faltering in the latter part finishing the back nine at threeover 39. Shrestha made a flying start with three consecutive birdies and added two more on the sixth and ninth holes. On the back nine, Shrestha dropped a shot on the 10th and faced a double bogey on the 14th hole.

Rokka played one-over 37 on the front nine before carding two-under 34 on the back nine. He faced bogeys on the first, fifth and eighth holes against birdies on the third and fourth holes. After taking the turn, Rokka carded birdies on the 11th and 12th holes.

Amateur Karki shot oneover 37 on the front nine and carded two-under 34 on the back nine. Karki carded a birdie on the second hole before dropping shots on the eighth and ninth holes. On the back nine, Karki carded birdies on the 11th and 16th holes.

Dhana Thapa and Rajendra Shrestha Pradhan shared the fourth position at one-over 145. Thapa faltered to three-over 75, while Shrestha Pradhan carded even-par 72 on the second day. Rame Magar (72) and Sanjay Lama (74) were tied for sixth at twoover 146, while Deepak Acharya carded one-under 71 for the eighth position at three-over 147. Shiva Ram Poudel (74) and Bikash Adhikari (75) were tied for ninth at five-over 149.

In amateur section, Tashi Tshiring was a distant second behind Karki at seven-over 151. Tshiring played three-over 75.

In all, 30 pros and eight amateur golfers are taking part in the tournament sponsored by A total of 30 pros and eight amateur players are taking part in the tournament sponsored by Pilot Golfers Capt Rabindra Purush Dhakal, Capt Deepak Thapaliya and Capt Vijay Pratap Singh, in memory of Capt Badri K Shrestha, the first Nepali pilot who lost his life while serving the nation.

Sabita Shrestha, daughter of Capt Shrestha, has joined the sponsors’ team for the betterment of the tournament. Gandaki Noodles, BB Airways, Air Arabia, and Himalayan Bank are the co-sponsors of the tournament.

The 54-hole event is being played at two different courses. Gokarna hosted the first two days, while the final round will be played at Royal Nepal Golf Club. The event carries a cash purse of Rs 450,000 and top three pros will receive Rs 85,000, Rs 56,000 and Rs 37,000 respectively.
