Kathmandu, July 9

National Sports Council Member Secretary Ramesh Kumar Silwal said he was hopeful of getting the solution of deadlock in the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN).

Speaking at a farewell programme of national cricket team, Silwal said he had already invited the five-member Monitoring Committee to find a way out. “After discussing with the Monitoring Committee, I will communicate with the International Cricket Council and I believe that we will have a solution soon,” said Silwal, who took over the sports governing body yesterday.

Silwal, the president of ad hoc committee formed by NSC bypassing the elected body, said he would not spare anyone who disrupts the process of restoring the membership of CAN. “I have received congratulatory messages from all the stakeholders, including the ones who moved the court against me in the past. Now that I have come to the position which is supposed to find the way out, I am sure we can end this deadlock,” added Silwal after bidding farewell to the national team, which left for Kuala Lumpur to play two-match Twenty20 International series against Malaysia.

After facing Malaysia, the team will travel to Singapore to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup Asian Regional Finals Qualifier where Nepal will face Qatar, Kuwait, Malaysia and Singapore.

Top team from the tournament will earn berth in the 14-team ICC T20 World Cup Qualifier. Top six sides from the tournament to be held in the United Arab Emirates in October-November will make it to next year’s World Cup in Australia.

Skipper Paras Khadka said the team had no option to finish at the top of the table in Singapore. “We do not have any room to make mistakes in the tournament as only the winners will advance to the global qualifiers,” said Khadka. “We are the best ranked side in the tournament and the way we have prepared for the event, we are hoping for positive results,” he added.

Coach Umesh Patwal was satisfied with the preparation and the only target of the team would be to win the tournament. “The training was pretty good and we have worked out on certain things. We are going to Singapore with the target of winning the tournament,” added Patwal.
