KATHMANDU: Rupandehi Challengers slipped to a one-run-defeat by Mahendranagar United in the eliminator of Dhangadi Premier League on Thursday.

United decided to go with the bat after winning the toss and set a target of 115 runs with a wicket to spare in the stipulated overs. In reply, Challengers fell short of a run to equalise.

Abinash Bohora who bagged player of the match took two crucial wickets and spared Challengers a meagre tally of 13 runs in four overs fatally damaging latters’ hope to reach the qualifiers.

National Team middle order batsman and United Skipper Sarad Veshwakar made unbeaten 29 runs off 38 for United. Likewise, Challengers’ Babar Hayat made 28 (2-4s and 1-6) off 29 before he was bowled by Bohora.

Mahendranagar United will now lock horns with Kathmandu Goldens in the second qualifiers on Friday. The winner of the second qualifier will face CYC Attariya in DPL finals slated for Saturday.
