Aayesha Shakya scripts history as she grabs gold in Poomsae

KATHMANDU: Aayesha Shakya grabbed a gold medal for Nepal in Taekwondo Poomsae at the ongoing South Asian Games at the Taekwando Hall in Satdobato on Monday.

Shakya has registered her name in Taekwondo history with this win, becoming the only player to have won a gold each in Poomsae and Kyorugi disciplines.

Leaving behind her Indian and Sri Lankan opponents, Aayesha secured gold in Women’s Individual Poomsae of Taekwondo in 29 years above age category.

In doing so, Shakya received 7.940 points while her Indian and Sri Lankan opponents Bharat Prajakita and Gayatri got 7.640 and 7.550 points respectively.

This is her second gold medal in the International game but her first medal after having two children. Furthermore, she has won gold medals in two different categories.
