Amateur Sukra Bahadur Rai plays a shot on the third day of the Surya Nepal Premier in Kathmandu on Wednesday.

Amateur Sukra Bahadur Rai opened up one-stroke lead after the third round of the Surya Nepal Premier Golf Championship here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
The winner of the Surya Nepal Eastern Open, Rai carded two-under 70 to post the 54- hole total of six-under 210 in the ninth and final event under the Surya Nepal Golf Tour 2018-19.
Defending champion Bhuwan Nagarkoti and amateur Subash Tamang shared the second position at five-under 211.
Nagarkoti carded three-under 69, while overnight leader Tamang played one-over 73.
Rai carded two-under 34 on the front nine and played evenpar 36 on the back nine. After facing a bogey on the second hole, Rai carded birdies on the fourth, seventh and ninth before taking the turn. On the back nine, he made birdies on 10th, 12th and 15th holes against a double bogey on 11th and bogey on 17th hole.
Nagarkoti carded three-under 33 on the front nine before settling for even-par 36 on the latter half. He carded birdies on the second, fourth and eighth holes on the bogey-free front nine. Nagarkoti then earned shots on the 12th and 17th against a double-bogey on the 15th hole.
Overnight leader Tamang shot one-over 37 on the front nine after he faced bogeys on the sixth and eighth holes against a birdie on the seventh.
Tamang then carded a birdie on the 10th and dropped a shot on the 14th as he settled for evenpar 36 on the back nine.
Another amateur golfer, Tashi Tshiring was fourth at two-under 214 after he carded three-under 69, while Sanjok Moktan (73) and Dhana Bahadur Thapa (74) shared the fifth position at even-par 216. Bikash Adhikari (73) and Ramesh Adhikari (76) were tied at oneover 217 along with amateur Tanka Bahadur Karki (74).
Rame Magar (74) and firstround leader Jayaram Shrestha (78) were tied at two-over 218, while Rabi Khadka (69), Krishna Man Rajbahak (74) and amateur Binod Tamang (74) were at four-over 220.
A total of 40 pros and 20 amateurs are taking part in the biggest event of the season which carries a purse of Rs 1.26 million.
Top three pros will receive Rs 230,000, Rs 140,000 and Rs 95,000 respectively.
