APF beat Police in shootout, claim title

Kathmandu, November 30

Nepal APF Club defeated departmental rivals Nepal Police Club 5-4 in tiebreaker to win the third Chandragiri Mayor Gold Cup Football Tournament here today.

The match was decided on penalties after a 1-1 draw in the regulation period and both the teams failed to score in extra time. Prabin Syangtan put APF ahead in the seventh minute when he scored in rebound after NPC goalkeeper Shatrughan Chaudhary blocked Ashish Lama’s free kick. NPC levelled the scores in the 42nd minute after Nir Kumar Rai converted a free kick from 35 yards out.

In tie breaker, APF goalkeeper Amrit Chaudhary became the hero as he saved NPC skipper Jumanu Rai’s shot to lead his team to victory. Suman Lama, Ajit Bhandari, Hem Tamang and Bhola Silwal converted from the sport for NPC.

Sudip Shikhrakar, Ashish Lama, Nabin Lama, Buddhiman Rai and Ram Kumar Kumal scored for APF.

Champions APF received Rs 650,000, while NPC got Rs 350,000. APF goalkeeper Amrit Chaudhary was named the best player of the tournament, while his teammate Prabin Syangtan was the highest scorer.
