DHANKUTA: Bindhyabasini Club of Morang defeated Royal Football Club of India in sudden death to advance to the semi-finals of the 14th Martyr Bhim Narayan Gold Cup here on Saturday.

The opening match was decided in the first kick of sudden death after both the teams scored five goals each in tie-break following a goalless draw in the regulation period.

Bindhyabasini skipper Ashok Khawas converted his kick from the spot in sudden death, while Pratik Lama’s shot was stopped by goalkeeper Surya Adhikari to seal victory for the Morang-based club.

On Sunday, hosts Dhankuta-XI will take on last year’s runners-up Birtamod United Club of Jhapa.

A total of eight teams are taking part in the tournament which began 21 years ago in memory of Martyr Bhim Narayan Shrestha.

Top two teams will receive Rs 400,000 and Rs 200,000 respectively.
