POKHARA: Dauphins Family Club of Cameroon has won the 6th edition of Manakamana Cablecar Pokhara Cup in the Lake City, on Sunday.

The visitors edged APF’s with a narrow 1-0 victory at the Pokhara Stadium today and bagged a cash purse of Rs 7,55,000 along with trophy medals and certificates. While, the runner-up APF had to settle for Rs 4,05,000, medals and certificates.

The departmental team APF failed to trouble the opposition, who were physically and techincally superior, during the whole 90 minutes, despite home supporters behind them.

Visiting team, Dauphins created numerous scoring chances in the first half, though they have to wait until Yanik Owanas broke the deadlock in the 54th minute of the game, which later proved to be enough for them to beat tired looking APF team.

In the second half, Dauphins totally controlled the match and did not give any sniff of chances for APF to come back in the title showdown. As the game went on, Dauphins FC entertained the crowd with their total African football mojo.

After going a goal down, APF poured men forward in search of an equaliser but to no avail.

Later, Dauphins Yanik Owanas was adjudged man-of-the-match for his sintillating perforamnce. He also bagged the best striker and highest scorer award of the tournament.

Likewise, In individual accolades, APF’s Raju Nagarkoti, Ramesh Dangal were declared the best goalkeeper and defender award respectively. Custodian Nagarkoti was awarded Yahama motorcycle.

Heman Gurung of Manang Marshyangdi Club won the best midfielder award. APF’s head coach Rajendra Tamang was declared the best coach. They were rewarded with a cash purse of Rs 25, 000 each.

Similarly, Japan’s Rissho University team was awarded the best discipline team of the compitition.

ANFA president Karma Tsering Sherpa and Kaski Football Association Chairman Milan Gurung handed over the trophies, medals and certificates to players and officials.

During the post-match presentation, APF’s head coach Rajendra Tamang said, “It was hard for his team to deal with opposition’s physically tall players.”

Likewise, Dauphins triumphant skipper Jo Andgola said, “Nepali football has improved a lot in recent times and APF’s display toady was evidence of it.”

A total of 12 teams had participated in the tournament, according to the organisers.
