Chitwan, Kalaiya advance to final

Chitwan Cricket Club and Kalaiya Cricket Club advanced to the final of the 16th Mayor’s Chitwan Championship Trophy here at the Campa Chaur today.

In the last league round matches, hosts Chitwan defeated Dhangadhi Cricket Academy by five wickets, while Kalaiya beat Wai Wai Great Himalayan Cricket Academy by 26 runs to make it to the final as winners of their respective groups.

In the first match which was reduced to 18-over-a-side, Dhangadhi posted 133-8 before Chitwan raced to 134-5 with six balls to spare. Man-of-the-match Akash Thapa scored an unbeaten 67 off just 48 balls hitting seven fours and two sixes to lead Chitwan to victory. Dipesh Shrestha struck two fours and a six in his 25-ball 30.

Gyanendra Kunwar took 2-10 for DCA, while Binod Lama, Abhishek Singh and Aman Panthi took one wicket each.

Earlier, DCA posted the fighting total riding on Raju Rijal Rijal’s half century.

Rijal struck six boundaries and two sixes in his 41-ball 62. Bijay Rana scored 40 off 37 balls hitting four fours.

Kishor Mahato was the pick of the Chitwan bowlers taking 3-30, while Dipesh Shrestha claimed two and Shangharsha Paudel and Anil Paudel bagged one wicket each.

In another match, Kalaiya were bowled out for 167 runs in 20 overs before packing GHCA for 141 with three balls to spare.

Man-of-the-match Amit Shrestha top-scored for Kalaiya with 38 off 19 balls that included five boundaries and two sixes, while Hasim Ansari struck three fours and a six in his 28- ball 36. Shiva Tandukar scored 21-ball 26 hitting one four and three sixes.

Sagar Dhakal was the pick of the GHCA bowlers taking 4-24, while Kamal Khatri, Nabin Yadav, Sonu Tamang and Sonu Devkota claimed one wicket each.

In reply, Ishan Pandey and Sonu Tamang were the only batsmen who scored in double figures for GHCA.

Pandey hit four fours and a six in his 31-ball 33, while Tamang scored 31 off 22 balls that included one four and three sixes.

Kumar Thapa took 3-17 and man-of-the-match Amit Shrestha claimed 2-26 for Kalaiya, while Ashutosh Patel, Adil Ansari and Bhulawan Sahni bagged one wicket each. The final is slated for Monday.
