KATHMANDU: Nepali athlete Bhim Bahadur Gurung won the title of the 50km ultra race in Oman on Friday.
Gurung completed the landscape course in Oman deserts in five hours, 26 minutes and 22 seconds, finishing 12 minutes ahead of second placed athlete from Germany.
According to star ultra runner Mira Rai, Jumla’s Sunmaya Budha won the women’s section race with the timing of 6:12:26. Budha, who was sixth overall, finished 20 minutes ahead of second place runner Holly Page, a member of the UK’s national trail-running team.
The 21-year old from Jumla has now won two “by UTMB” events, including a victory at the Gaoligong race in China.
Mira Rai, who came third in 6:43:08, said, “This was a wonderful race, an amazing landscape with very great athletes competing from different countries.
I am very happy for the winners from Nepal and I am satisfied with the third position as my training is taking pace slowly.”
