Thanks Geoff, hello everyone. Even by Virat Kohli’s stratospheric standards, that was a disgustingly good hundred on a slow, awkward pitch. If Australia are to win this, and validate the surprising decision to bowl first, they surely need to get off to a flyer.

They won the toss and elected to bowl first, so they’ll be happy to have bowled India out. But 251 could still be very steep in these conditions. Batting will be tricky tonight with the pitch slowing up and the ball slowing up as well. Patience and timing will be key, and they haven’t been big features of Australia’s batting of late.

“It was really hot, and there was a dry wind out there,” says Pat Cummins. “The ball got chewed up basically, so the back end of the innings will be the hardest to score.”
