Cameroon’s Dauphins down Three Star Club in tie-breaker

HETAUDA: Visiting Cameroon’s Dauphins Family Club defeated Three Star Club (TSC) in a tie-breaker to advance to the final of Martyr’s Memorial Makwanpur Gold Cup in Hetauda on Thursday.

An evenly thrilling encounter went to the tie-breaker after both the teams ended 1-1 in a regulation time at a full house crowd in the Institute of Forestry (IOF) ground today.

After TSC’s veteran Anil Gurung skied his shot over the bar, Dauphins won the game 5-4 in the penalty shoot out.

Both the teams played attacking football in an early exchange though they failed to notch goals before ending first half in a stalemate. In the second half, Dauphins pressing game yielded dividend as Yanik Owana broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute of the game.

However, Dauphins could not hold on to their lead for long as Ranjan Bista hit them back within seven minutes to equalise for Lalitpur-based Three Star Club.

In the dying minutes, both the teams poured men forward in search of a winning goal, but to no avail.

Later, TSC’s Jivan Gurung was declared man-of-the-match for his scintillating performance and bagged a cash purse of Rs 10,000.

Dauphins Family Club and the hosts Makwanpur-11 will meet in the title showdown on Saturday.

The winner will walk away with Rs 0.8 million, along with trophy, certificates and medals. Likewise, the runner-up will collect Rs 0.4 million, according to the organisers.
