KATHMANDU: India demolished Sri Lanka 5-0 and advanced into the last four as group winner of the ongoing 5th edition of SAFF Women’s Championship in Biratnagar on Sunday.

India’s Grace Dangmei scored in the fourth minute before Sandhya Ranganathan doubled the lead three minutes later at the Sahid Stadium today. After the half-hour mark, Sanju scored her first and team’s third goal in the 36th minute.

Dominant India were four-goal up before half time as Sri Lankan defender Rushani Gunawardana handled the ball inside the box, Sangita Basfore stepped up to take the kick and send the goalie wrong way.

In the second half, rampant India scored their fifth goal as Rantanbala Devi Nongmaithem engineered a move before coolly slotting the ball home in the 5oth minute of the game.

With this victory, India finished top of their group and will meet Bangladesh in the semi-finals of the tournament. Nepal will take on Sri Lanka in other semi-finals.
