The Irish government has contacted the United Arab Emirates over the involvement of an Irish crime boss in a proposed boxing match between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

The taoiseach, Leo Varadkar, told the Irish parliament on Thursday that the department of foreign affairs was in touch with UAE officials about a boxing promoter who has been identified by an Irish court as a senior figure in organised crime on a global scale.
