The one-time Spain international with a passion for birdsong quickly moved past early uncertainty about his own talent to attract world-record interest from Chelsea

“They’re going to throw me out, I think they’re going to throw me out,” said Kepa Arrizabalaga in an interview in 2016. Born in Ondarroa, a fishing village of 10,000 people in the heart of Spain’s Basque country, the young man who is set to become the world’s most expensive goalkeeper was not quite so sure of his talent as a unassuming teenager, despite being called up to Athletic Bilbao’s first team squad by Marcelo Bielsa.
