Kathmandu, October 25

The price of the major vegetables has come down notably in the retail market owing to surplus supply.

Compared to their retail price recorded one month ago, vegetables like tomato, cauliflower, cabbage,
raddish, French bean, pumpkin and mushroom, among others have become cheaper by as much as 65 per cent today.

Officials at the Kalimati Fruits and Vegetable Market Development Board (KFVMDB) informed that low demand of vegetables during the Dashain festival amid surplus supply in the market has brought down veggie price lately. “Consumption of vegetables is often low during Dashain. Similarly, it is the peak plucking time of different vegetables which has resulted in surplus supply of vegetables in the market,” informed Binaya Shrestha, deputy director at KFVMDB.

According to the statistics of vegetable price maintained by KFVMDB, price of cauliflower has come down by 65 per cent in the retail market over a month’s period to Rs 45 per kg. Similarly, price of French bean has come down to Rs 45 per kg from Rs 115 per kg in the last one month.

While the retail price of mushroom has fallen to Rs 95 per kg from Rs 195 in one month’s time, price of tomato and cabbage have plummeted by Rs 20 per kg each to Rs 45 per kg each.
