Nepal lose to Bhutan

KATHMANDU: Nepali youth football team faced a 4-3 penalty shoot out defeat against Bhutan in the third place playoff match of the SAFF U-15 Girls Championship at the Changlimithang Stadium in Thimpu on Saturday.

The match was decided on penalties after both the teams were deadlocked at 2-2 in regulation period. In tie breaker, Saraswoti Hamal, Priti Rai and Saloni Magar converted their kicks for Nepal, while Sabita Rana Magar and Chandra Bhandari failed to score from the spot. Sonam Lhamo, Chhiting Yangchen, Yashi Bidha and Chhiring Laden scored for Bhutan. Earlier, Nepal fell behind in the second minute of the match when Deki Yangden scored the opening goal.

Chandra Bhandari levelled the scores moments after the break and she put Nepal ahead with her second goal in the 55th minute. Yashi Bidha scored the equaliser for the hosts in the 66th minute. Defending champions Bangladesh and India are contesting in the final.
