Paddy plantation 90 per cent complete

KATHMANDU: Around 90 per cent paddy plantation has concluded throughout the country so far, official statistics show.

According to the Ministry of Agricultural Development, rice plantation is over in many parts of the country as of August 2, 2018.

In the corresponding period last year, only 77 per cent of paddy plantation had concluded. At present, the ministry estimates that 98 per cent of plantation works would conclude by the second week of the month, as reported by Rastriya Samachar Samiti.

The ministry stated that rice yield last fiscal stood at 5.15 million metric tonnes and the yield is expected to reach approximately 5.5 million metric tonnes this time.

Rice is planted on 1.550 million hectares of land and fluctuation of about 10 per cent in rice production leads to one per cent fluctuation in the country’s GDP.
