Kathmandu, July 4
Nepal Police Club and Brigade Boys Club registered their second victories and advanced to the quarter-finals of the Lalit Memorial U-18 Football Championship here at the ANFA Complex grounds today.
In the day’s first match, NPC thrashed Saraswoti Youth Club 5-1 riding on a hat-trick from Sanju Sen. Rabin Rai and Enson Rai added one goal each for the departmental side, while Saraswoti were gifted with an own goal from NPC’s Bigen Rai.
Sen opened the scoring in the 18th minute and doubled the lead with his second goal of the match moments before the first half whistle. Sen completed the ha-trick in the 74th minute. Rabin Rai then made it 4-0 in the 77th minute and Enson Rai completed the scoring in the 81st minute. In between, NPC defender Bigen Rai scored into his own nets while trying to clear the ball.
In another match, Roshan Rana Magar netted twice in the second half as BBC defeated neighbours Jawalakhel Youth Club 3-0. Birjesh Chaudhary put BBC ahead in the 35th minute to go into the break with a lead. Rana Magar doubled the tally in the 54th minute and he put the issue beyond doubt with his second goal in the 70th minute. Both NPC and BBC accumulated six points to make it to the last eight, while Saraswoti and Jawalakhel crashed out after facing two straight defeats.
A total of 14 teams, the youth sides of ‘A’ division outfits, are taking part in the tournament organised by All Nepal Football Association in memory of its the then acting president Lalit Krishna Shrestha, who died of electrocution at his newly-built residence.
