NPC opened with a 6-5 lead in the first quarter before extending the lead to seven points by winning the second period 18-12. Gorillas bounced back strongly after the break and won the next two quarters — 14-11, 18-11 — to edge past NPC in the first match.

Sadina Shrestha of Gorillas was named the player of the match for her 18 points, seven rebounds and three steals.

In men’s section, Tribhuvan Army Club beat Royal Basketball Club 97-85 to registered their 12th victory.

RBC won the first quarter 30-25 but TAC hit back in the next two to take a 12-point lead before both the teams netted 22 points in the final period. TAC levelled the scores at 47-all by winning the second quarter 22-17, while the departmental side dominated the third taking it 28-16 and that made all the difference.

TAC’s Robin Khatri — who netted 33 points and had nine assists and two steals — was declared the player of the match.

With the win, TAC moved within a point of leaders Times International Club, who have already ended their campaign with 26 points from 14 matches.

TAC, who will face ANK Kritipur Basketball Team in their last match on Tuesday, are second with 25 points.

Both Times and TAC have already secured playoffs berths. With one each match remaining, three teams — Golden Gate International Club, NPC and Budhanilkhantha Municipality Basketball Club — are tied on 20 points and they will fight for the remaining two berths for playoffs.
