Tottenham are forced back to Wembley by safety concerns at home

Tottenham Hotspur have activated a contractual option to play two home games at Wembley, after “issues with the critical safety systems” at their new home venue forced the Liverpool and Cardiff visits and an NFL match scheduled for 14 October to be switched to the national stadium.

The action was taken as Spurs attempt to keep up with an ambitious construction plan for their new 62,000-capacity stadium. “Recent testing and commissioning has now shown issues with the critical safety systems,” a club statement read. “Urgent follow-up meetings with [the stadium contractor] Mace and the trade contractors are now taking place.
