2nd over: West Indies 2-0 (Gayle 2, Campbell 0) Tom Curran shares the new ball. This is a pretty big series for him. One of Curran, Wood, Willey and Jofra Archer will start the first game of the World Cup against South Africa, but one of them will also miss out on the squad. There’s a lot to like about Curran, particularly his variations and the way he is invigorated by the big stage.

Just one from his first over, too. Gayle strolls a single to third man and then Campbell is beaten by a lovely delivery angled across him.

1st over: West Indies 1-0 (Gayle 1, Campbell 0) There’s a bit of mizzle around but play will start on time. With Chris Woakes rested, Mark Wood assumes the role of attack leader. His first over is a good one, with just one run from it, and the last ball cuts Campbell in half. That was clocked at 91mph.

“Hi Rob,” says Phil Smith. “Is that South Africa/Sri Lanka match really still in day two? What? I’ve had longer hangovers than that.”
