13th South Asian Games: Nepal secures its first gold

KATHMANDU: Nepal claimed its first gold medal in the ongoing 13th South Asian Games at Nepal Karate Academy in Satdobato, Lalitpur on Monday.

Mande Kaji Shrestha won the gold medal by defeating his Pakistani opponent Niematullah in the men’s individual Kata Category of Karate.

Shrestha secured 25.72 points while his opponent 24.52 points.

Previously, Nepal had won silver in women’s individual Kata Category of Karate. Chanchala Danuwar of Nepal missed the gold, losing to her Pakistani opponent.

With this, Nepal has won a total of one gold and one silver in the tournament.
