Kathmandu, January 7

Nepal APF Club stunned CMG Club Sankata 2-1 in their last match of the Pulsar Martyrs Memorial A Division League here at the ANFA Complex grounds today.

APF sealed fifth place in the league following the victory, while Sankata are assured of second place behind Signature Manang Marshyangdi Club. APF accumulated 23 points from 13 matches.

Yubraj Khadka and Rajan Gurung scored one goal each for APF, while Laxman Ruchal pulled one back for Sankata. Khadka put APF ahead in the 23rd minute when he found the back of the nets following a pass from Ashish Lama.

Gurung doubled the tally in the 71st minute. Gurung headed home following a free kick from Sudip Shikhrakar. Ruchal scored the consolation goal for Sankata in the fourth minute of the injury time when he converted the free kick into the goal.

MMC have already claimed the title for the record eighth time and they are on the verge of creating another history.

MMC, who are the lone unbeaten side in the tournament, have a chance to finish on top with 100 per cent winning record. MMC will face NIBL Friends Club in the last match of the league on Tuesday. New Road Team will play against Brigade Boys Club in the day’s another match.

Sankata finished second with 28 points, while Ruslan Three Star Club claimed the third position with 26 points. Tribhuvan Army Club was the best among the departmental sides. TAC finished fourth with 25 points, two more than Nepal APF Club. Nepal Police Club were sixth with 19 points.

Brigade Boys Club (nine), Friends (nine), Machhindra Football Club (seven) and NRT (six) are the bottom four clubs in the 14-team standing but the results of the remaining matches will not affect the clubs much as the league does not have the provision of relegation.
