It was a spirited performance from Spurs but Arsenal’s superiority shone through in the end. After a fine effort from Tottenham to keep Arsenal at bay until inside the final 20 minutes, a mistake allowed Jordan Nobbs to put Arsenal ahead with a superb chip. And then Lisa Evans piled in with a hat-trick to turn the screw on their north-London rivals, as Arsenal started to find more and more space among the tiring Tottenham defence.

Joe Montemurro’s Arsenal are into the last four of the Women’s FA Cup. The other three quarter-finals all take place tomorrow.

The proverbial acres of space has now opened up in the Spurs defence, and Arsenal are punishing them. It’s a shame in a way because the defensive efforts that Spurs put in were so impressive in the first half. But Arsenal’s attacking class has told in the end. Evans turns the ball into the roof of the net from close range after an attack down the right, and it’s her hat-trick. Mead then has a chance to make it 5-0 but she scuffs a first-time shot wide.
