Boxers to go to Thailand for special training

Kathmandu, July 7

A 21-member Nepali boxing team is on Monday leaving for Thailand to undergo special training for the preparation of the 13th South Asian Games slated for December in Kathmandu.

Sushil Thapa Magar, Tej Bahadur Deuba, Puran Rai, Sanil Shahi, Bhupendra Thapa, Bikash Lama, Deepak Shrestha, Ganesh Pradhan, Arjun Singu and Ashish Duwadi are the men boxers picked up for the two-month training. Likewise, Sushma Tamang, Lalita Maharjan, Mala Rai, Minu Gurung, Chandra Kala Thapa, Sangita Sunar and Poonam Rawal are the women boxers who made the cut. Chief coach Prakash Thapa Magar, senior coach Prabin Tuladhar and coaches Raju Thapa and Umesh Katwal will accompany the players to Bangkok.

The Nepali boxers will also participate in the Thailand Open International Boxing Tournament slated for July 20-28, while Bhupendra Thapa will travel to Indonesia to take part in the 23rd President International Boxing Tournament to be held in Jakarta from July 22-29. NOC President Jeevan Ram Shrestha and NBA President Ram Awale among others bade farewell to the team.
