KATHMANDU: Inbound and outbound travellers have now been barred from carrying cash above Rs 5,000 or $5,000.

Issuing a notice, Nepal Rastra Bank has informed that no individual will be allowed to carry cash above the mentioned denomination either in person, via cargo, courier or postal service.

Earlier, the limit was set at $1,000. According to the central bank’s notice, anyone wanting to bring in or take away more money than the set limit would have to declare it to the customs officer or concerned official if the money is being transferred via cargo, courier or postal service.
