Karatekas set to take part in Thailand Open

Kathmandu, July 8

National karate team members are on Tuesday leaving for Bangkok to participate in the Thailand Open Karate Championship slated for July 10-14.

A total of 11 karatekas will participate in kumite and kata.

Sonam Lama (55kg), Diwas Shrestha (84kg), Sunny Tamang (68kg) and Asmita Rai (53kg) will fight in their respective weight categories.

Likewise, Monday Kaji Shrestha and Chanchala Danuwar will compete in singles kata and the duo will join Subash Karki, Prabin Manandhar, Nirmala Tamang, Saru Karki and Kopila Bista in team kata. Coaches Kushal Shrestha and Ganga Ram Maharjan along with team manager Ravi Maharjan will join the players to Bangkok.

National Institute of Sports Department Director Mahendra Kumar Rai, National Team Preparation Director Arjun BK and Nepal Karate Federation General Secretary Hari Sharan KC bade farewell to the team.
