Nepal finish 15th in volleyball

Kathmandu, August 31

Nepal earned a walkover win from Kyrgyzstan to finish 15th in men’s volleyball tournament of the 18th Asian Games at the GOR Bulungan Stadium in Jakarta today.

The walkover is awarded as a 3-0 victory with 25-0 scores in all three sets. A total of 20 nations took part in men’s volleyball and Nepal were among the six teams fighting for 13-16 ranking.

Earlier, Nepal defeated Mongolia 3-1 and lost to Sri Lanka by the same margin.

In the preliminary round matches, Nepal had faced identical 3-0 losses against Chinese Taipei and South Korea.

Judo Nepal’s poor run in judo continued as three for players were eliminated from the race today.

Shree Ram Makaju faced defeat at the hands of Komronshokh Ustopiriyon of Tajikistan in the men’s below-90 kg round of 16 bout, while Ravin Shrestha lost to Juraev Sherali of Uzbekistan in men’s -100 kg match.

In women’s section, Punam Shrestha went down to Yujin Park of South Korea in below-78 kg quarter-final bout.

Olympian Phupu Lhamu Khatri, Manita Shrestha
Pradhan, Sanjit Dangol, Indra Bahadur Shrestha and Devika Khadka have already been eliminated from the Asiad.
