KATHMANDU: Top Nepali shuttler Ratnajit Tamang advanced to the men’s singles second round of the Yonex Sunrise Bangladesh International Challenge in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Tamang defeated India’s Ankur Sangpang Rai 21-11, 25-23 in the first round match and will face Malaysian’s Zulhilmi Zulkifli. Another Nepali player, Dipesh Dhami faced a 21-18, 21-13 defeat at the hands of Indonesian shuttler Christian Adinata.

The pair of Tamang and Dhami received a first round bye in men’s doubles, while Nangsal Devi Tamang and Amita Giri advanced to the women’s doubles quarter-finals after earning walk over from Mauritius players.

Likewise, Dhami and Giri also earned walk over from Mauritius in the first round match of mixed doubles event.
